About standarts

Each breed of cats has its own very detailed description. This description is called a breed standard. At cats exhibitions the experts estimate each animal how it meets the accepted standard. So far as there are many dozens of felinological organizations all over the world, so there are some standards of each breed. The system standards often differ in the descriptions of one and the same cat breed. In the first place it can be explained by the fact, that the world felinological organizations were founded on geographical basis. Each cat breed has its own history of development in a certain region. In turn each geographical region has its own history.

So, for example, the felinological organizations of Australia and New Zealand have in the description of cat breeds much in common with the standards of the felinological organizations of Great Britain, though they are quite different. There is no wonder, if to remember that Australia and New Zealand were the colonies of the British Kingdom for a long time. And till now these countries have the same health veterinary requirements of animal transportation.
And another example: in modern history the development of many breeds was more successful in the USA, than in Europe, because the Second World War didn’t allow the European for minimum a decade to enjoy their favourite hobby, and considerably cut down the number of pedigreed cats. Also there are limitations of animal transportation from one or another regions in some countries. It substantially influences the look formation of cat breeds.

It happened that way with the cat breeds presented in our project.
Both Burmese and Bombay have considerable regional differences in look, which are conditional on historical moments of formation and developing of these breeds.
Being a child of the American breeders, these breeds found the fans also in Europe. But low genetic pool made the European breeders to use another, more or less related breeds of cats. And it couldn’t but reflect in their look.
Asian cats, being a creation of the British and Australian breeders, are not often represented at the American continent and don’t have any registration in the felinological systems of the USA.
It’s described more detailed in the breed presentation.

We offer you the possibility to compare the breed standard requirements of the main felinological systems, which are the parts of the World Felinological Congress (WCC) and the most popular among the breeders of Burmeses, Bombays and Asian cats nowadays.

These are:
TICA (The International Cat Association)
CFA (Cat Fanciers’ Association)
WCF (World Cat Federation)
FIFe (Federation Internationale Feline)
GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy)

*It should be noted, that the American felinological organization CFA (Cat Fanciers’ Association) has the Burmese standard and European Burmese standard. These are 2 different breeds, which, according to the rules of the organization, cannot be bred between themselves. There is Burmese standard in the table.
There is also a detailed division in the Australian organization CCCA (Coordinating Cat Council of Australia). But there the breeds have another names: Burmese and Burmese American.

There is also a detailed division into 2 breeds in Bombay standard.

The standard of the Australian organization СССA, http://cccofa.asn.au/standard.htm describes 2 breeds: American  Bombay and Australian Bombay. The last one is the representative of the breed of Asian cats.

The standard of the New-Zealand organization NZCF, http://www.nzcatfancy.gen.nz/breeds/sop.php describes 2 breeds:  Bombay and Australian Bombay. The last one is the representative of the breed of Asian cats.

In their work the breeders follow the standards of the felinological organization of their own choice, subject to the origin of their cats.

As all the catteries – members of the project (Bombay and Burmese breeders) – prefer Contemporary American Cat Type, there is no individual information about European type.  We plan to devote one of the parts of the project to this cat type with the help of our colleagues - European Burmese breeders.
