Federation Intrnatoinale Feline (FIFe)

In 1949 the Royal Cat Society of Flanders, the French Cat Federation and the Italian Cat Society got for the first informal meeting and decided to found La Fédération Internationale Féline d’Europe (FIFE). In the same year there was the first show with 200 cats from France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands. On December 10, 1950 FIFE came to its first General Assembly in Ghent, Belgium. The FIFE Charter was adopted there.

The federation was growing rapidly. When the Brazilian Clube Brasileiro do Gato joined FIFE, the later was renamed to FIFe - La Fédération Internationale Féline.

Each FIFe member saves its abbreviation, symbols and other identification signs but they all obey the FIFe rules for cat registration, shows, judges’ training and recognition. In its rules FIFe concentrates on cats’ health and wealth.

The General Assembly is the highest legislative power in FIFe. It examines and discusses its members’ proposals, passes new rules or alternates the old ones, elects and reelects the FIFe government, discusses new instructions and moulds new FIFe strategies.

The FIFe refereeing is the same as in WCF (based on the European system where the animal is examined and described anonymously at the judge desk).  The judge report is filled for each animal where basic parameters of the standard are listed (head, eyes, ears, body, hair, color and condition). The points of an animal depend on the degree of correspondence to the standard. The Burmese are not subdivided according to their hair color as in WCF.

The FIFe titles:

  • Breed Champion (CH)
  • Grand Champion (GCH)
  • Grand Inter Champion (GICH)
  • Europe Champion (ECH), called Supreme at present.
