The Asian program

Some organizations unite Asian cats into one breed within one standard even with different registered hair color. Some organizations register the breeds as independent according to the hair color and length.

It should be mentioned that NZCA doesn’t recognize Asian Self breed. But the animals who have the solid hair color belong to the separate breed, registered as Mandalay.

The tables present the Asian breed registration in felinological organizations – WCC (World Cat Congress) members.

Different felinological organizations have their own programs of working with the Asian breed group 
There is one fundamental difference: which breeds were in the basis of the Asian group and which are allowed at the present time. The rules of animal registration to the Asian breed group are also different. 
The most frequently used program is one accepted in the English organization GCCF. This program is taken as a principle for many other organizations. The latest changes were made in June 2007.

The breeds, which are allowed in the pedigrees of Asian Shorthair and Semi-longhair: 
Note: Asian cats should have a type of Burmese breed (breed27). The term “sepia” is used in the given test to define homozygous cats with recessive gene of Burmese colour (cb). The term «full expression» is used to define the cats, which have one or two dominant genes for full colour (C-). 

A. Burmese (breeds 27, 27a, 27b, 27c, 27d, 27e, 27f, 27g, 27h, 27j) completely registered. 

B. Asian Shorthair: Asian Selfs and Torties: Asian cats of Burmese type, 17 following colours are accepted: black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream, caramel, cinnamon, fawn, apricot, black tortoiseshell, blue tortoiseshell, chocolate tortoiseshell, violet tortoiseshell, cinnamon tortoiseshell, fawn tortoiseshell. These cats are the sepias and should be registered as Asian, but can have in their pedigree both Shorthair and Semi-longhair Asians. 
Asian Smokes. All 17 colours of Smokes can or cannot be sepias. Asian Tabbies of gold and silver colours can or cannot be sepias. Tabby colour can be spotted, marbled, tiger and ticked. 
Asian Shaded ("Burmilla") of gold and silver, in all 17 colours can or cannot be sepias. 

C. Asian Semi-longhair: Semi-longhair of Burmese type (“Tiffany”) with all mentioned colours and markings of Burmeses and Asians. 

D. Chinchillas (breed10) on the Full or Supplementary* Registers. They were admitted till 31 December 2000, after that their participation in the pedigree program was limited. 

E. Allowed outcrossings: nonpedigreed cats were used in the process of creation of Asian Selfs and Tortoiseshell Asians. But beginning from the date of present data acceptance (20.06.07) the statement of registration as Asians, which have undeclared breeds in their pedigrees, will be admitted only accepting the following terms about outcrossings. 

1. Short hair and Semi-longhair Asians: Selfs, Tortoiseshells, Smokes, Shaded or Tabbies of the Asian type shouldn’t have the rex gene, the white spot gene, the Himalayas gene and the gene giving white colour to legs. 
2. If it’s the first breeding of Selfs, Tortoiseshells, Smokes, Shaded or Tabbies of the Asian type, then the brood should be registered as Selfs, Tortoiseshells, Smokes, Shaded or Tabbies of the Asian type. 
Next generation will be bred with Asian, Burmese or with the first generation of Shorthair or Semi-longhair Self, Tortoiseshell, Smokes, Shaded or Tabbies of the Asian type ( how to get them is written above) to get the second generation, which will be registered as Selfs, Tortoiseshell, Smokes, Shaded or Tabbies of the Asian type. Two more next generations will be registered as the cats of the Asian type, only the fourth generation will be registered as Asian Self, Tortoiseshell, Smoke, Burmillas (Asian Shaded), Asian Tabby or Tiffany (Asian Semi-longhair).

1 generation = Shorthair or Semi-longhair Self/ Tortoiseshell, Smoke, Shaded or Tabby of the Asian type 
1 generation is bred with Asian, Burmese or with the first generation. 
2 generation = Shorthair or Semi-longhair Self/ Tortoiseshell, Smoke, Shaded or Tabby of the Asian type 
2 generation is bred with Asian or Burmese. 
3 generation = Shorthair or Semi-longhair Self/ Tortoiseshell, Smoke, Shaded or Tabby of the Asian type 
3 generation is bred with Asian or Burmese. 
4 generation = Asian Self/ Tortoiseshell, Asian Smoke, Asian Shaded, Asian Tabby or Tiffany.

(It’s important: any cat, that has the rex gene, the white spot gene, the gene, giving white colour to legs or the Himalayas gene is not acceptable in the pedigree of Shorthair or Semi-longhair Asians. Any cat that is used in the pedigree program of Asians, as it described it sections D and E, should have A blood group and show negative take in the test on the lack of erythrocytes and polycystic kidney illnesses. It also concerns imported cats, if they participate in the pedigree program of Asians beginning from the third generation. All these cats should be chipped). 

Registration

1.Complete registration 
Shorthair and Semi-longhair Asians with full or temporal recognition, having in their pedigrees 3 generations only of Shorthairs or Semi-longhairs or Burmeses with complete registration, have rights on complete registration. With the exception of the cats that have in their pedigree in 3 first generations animals with preliminary recognition.

2. Additional registration 
Shorthair and Semi-shorthair Asians with full or temporal recognition that have in their pedigrees 3 generations of only Shorthair or Semi-longhair Asians or Burmeses with complete registration or Chinchillas with complete or additional registration have rights on additional registration.

3.Experimental registration 
Shorthair and Semi-shorthair Asians with temporal recognition that have in their pedigrees only Shorthair and Semi-shorthair Asians or Burmese with complete registration or Chinchillas with complete or additional registration have rights on experimental registration.

From the Asian breeds WCF has Asian and Burmillas standards. 
These breeds are allowed to participate in exhibitions. 
Information on the official site of WCF says:

“WCC standard. 
The breed can participate in the exhibitions of all classes and get titles. 
What concerns the rules of reproduction, please, appeal to the appropriate organization, because there is no statement for WCF recognition nowadays”.

FIFe has only Burmillas standard from the Asian breeds.
